A list that explains itself

College list builder: reach, target and safety schools with the reasoning shown

Schools sorted by how well they actually fit, each with the reasoning attached: your estimated net price at your family income, your program strength, and whether your numbers sit above or below their published ranges.

What it does

  • Sorts every school into reach, target or safety against your own numbers and the school’s published ranges.
  • Keeps your shortlist with rounds and statuses, from considering to submitted.
  • Puts the deadline on your calendar as soon as you pick a round.
  • Flags the mistake nobody catches in time, like two Early Decision schools on one list.

What you get back

  • A personalized list with the reasoning behind every reach, target and safety.
  • Real tuition, with in-state and out-of-state kept apart, and your estimated price after aid on each school.
  • Program strength in your intended field, and a fit score for each school.
  • Every figure with its source: public data from the College Scorecard, IPEDS and Common Data Sets.

What it will not do

  • Tell you your chances of getting in as a percentage. It shows whether your numbers sit above, inside or below a school’s published ranges and says plainly that it can’t see your essays, recommendations or context.
  • Rank schools by reputation surveys or paid placements.
  • Pass off figures we haven’t yet synced as real. They are labelled as illustrative.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us where you are

A short quiz: your grades, what you want to study, where you would go, what your family can spend. Ten minutes, once.

  2. 2

Get a list that explains itself

Reaches, targets and safeties matched to your profile, with a reason for each. Open the seven category weights and set them yourself if the presets don’t fit.

  3. 3

    Shortlist and pick rounds

Add schools to your list, pick a round for each, and the deadline lands on your calendar automatically.

Free vs paid

Questions

Will you tell me my chances of getting in?

No, and we won’t pretend to. We show whether your numbers sit above, inside or below a school’s published ranges (Safety, Target, Reach) and say plainly that it can’t see your essays, recommendations or context.

Where does the school data come from?

Public sources: the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, IPEDS, and Common Data Sets. Rankings follow U.S. News ordering, and every stat in the app shows its source.

Can I change how schools are ranked?

Yes. The presets are shortcuts for seven category weights, and you can open the weights and set them yourself.

What happens when I pick an application round?

The deadline lands on your calendar automatically, and the list warns you when two schools clash, like two Early Decision schools on one list.

Is the college list builder free?

Yes. School research, rankings, your fit and your list are part of the free account, with no card needed to start.
